Home Country is a photo series and book exploring my complex relationship to the United States. A phrase often meant to describe a country preceding a move to the U.S. in the 20th century, Home Country interrogates what it means to emigrate from a country of immigrants in the 21st.
The isolation of others' misunderstanding is balanced by the privilege of being able to go home at will. My identity as an American cannot be expressed in pride of place or attachment by origin, but by an encompassing aesthetic of both cold and warm nostalgia.
